House painting questions, answered

Straight answers about estimates, insurance, prep, timelines and our written warranty. Still unsure? Ask in the chat or call us.

Are your estimates really free?

Yes. We visit your home or business anywhere in Toronto and the GTA, look at the surfaces and send you a written quote at no cost and with no obligation.

Is Lumen Painting insured and WSIB registered?

Yes. Lumen Painting carries liability insurance and is registered with the WSIB, so you are not left exposed if someone gets hurt or something is damaged on the job.

Do you give a warranty?

Yes. Every job comes with a written workmanship warranty. Its terms are spelled out in your quote, before any work starts.

Which areas do you serve?

All of Toronto, including North York, Scarborough, Etobicoke and East York, and the GTA: Mississauga, Brampton, Vaughan, Richmond Hill, Markham, Pickering, Ajax and Oakville. We also paint all over Ontario, Northern Ontario and Western Ontario included: tell us where the job is, and we will confirm the estimate visit and the dates.

How long does a painting job take?

It depends on the size of the job and the prep. A single room is often done in a day, while a full interior or exterior can take several days. Your quote includes a timeline.

Do I need to move my furniture?

We move and cover furniture as part of the job. We only ask you to put away small valuables, breakables and anything on the walls you would rather take down yourself.

What should I do before the painters arrive?

Put away small valuables, breakables and anything on the walls you would rather remove yourself, and let us know about pets, parking and alarm codes. We move and cover the furniture. Our guide on how to get your home ready for painters has a short checklist.

Do you help choose colours?

Yes. We can suggest colours and finishes and put sample patches on your walls, so you can see them in your own light before deciding.

What kind of paint do you use?

Quality paints chosen for each surface: low-odour paints for interiors, enamels for trim and cabinets, masonry products for brick and concrete, and exterior paints made for Ontario weather. If you already have a brand or colour in mind, we can use it.

Do you do repairs before painting?

Yes. Filling holes and cracks, sanding, caulking and spot-priming are part of normal prep. Larger drywall, plaster or wood repairs are listed separately in your quote.

Do you paint in winter?

Interior painting can be done all year. Exterior painting needs suitable temperatures and dry weather, so in Toronto it is usually planned between late spring and early fall.

Do I need to be home while you work?

Not necessarily. Many clients leave us a key or a door code. We agree on access, working hours and how we will keep in touch before the job starts.

Will you keep a record of my colours?

Yes. We record the product, colour and finish used in each area, so touch-ups and future jobs match.
