When to paint your exterior in Toronto
Most exterior paints need air and surface temperatures of about 10°C or more, a dry surface and no rain for several hours after application. Some products go lower, but cold nights, dew and freezing weather affect how paint cures. That makes late spring to early fall the main exterior season in Toronto. Book early: the best weeks fill up first. Read our guide to timing exterior painting.
Painted brick and stucco
Brick and stucco need breathable masonry products, not ordinary siding paint, so moisture can escape instead of pushing the paint off. If your brick has never been painted, think it through first: it is a long-term decision, because removing paint from brick later is hard. We can talk through the options at the estimate.
Why prep matters more outside
Paint fails outdoors where it goes over dirt, chalky old paint, moisture or loose layers. Washing, scraping, sanding, caulking and priming take most of the time on an exterior job, and they are what make the finish last.
What affects the price
- Size and height
- Storeys, steep roofs and tall gables need ladders or staging and more time.
- Surface type
- Siding, stucco and brick are each prepped and coated differently.
- Condition
- Heavy peeling, bare wood or rot means more scraping, repair and priming.
- Detail
- Victorian trim, bargeboards and porches take more time than plain siding.
- Colours
- Body, trim and accent colours each add cutting-in time.

Exterior Painting questions
What is the best time to paint a house exterior in Toronto?
Usually late spring to early fall, when temperatures stay around 10°C or higher, surfaces are dry and there is no rain in the forecast. We schedule for the right weather.
Do you paint brick?
Yes. We paint previously painted brick with breathable masonry products. For unpainted brick, we talk through the pros and cons first.
Do I need to be home while you paint the exterior?
No. We need access to outdoor taps and power, and someone to let us know about pets, gates and parking.
Can you paint aluminum siding?
Yes. Aluminum siding is cleaned, deglossed and primed where needed before painting.
How long does an exterior paint job last?
It depends on the surface, the prep, sun exposure and the weather. Good prep and quality exterior paint help it last for years. Your quote includes our written workmanship warranty.
